Our community has lost a true guardian, protector and a beautiful soul. I did not know Detective DeLeonardo personally. Speaking to family, friends and colleagues, Alexandra, “Allie”, was described as more than just the badge she wore. She was a kind listener and a dedicated protector. She answered the call to serve every single day with grace and courage. While we all struggle to reconcile what has happened. Wondering what clues we may have missed. Thinking, if she just reached out to one of us, talked to someone. Instead, we grieve a loss that words cannot fully express. But nevertheless, we still honor the light she brought into so many lives. May her dedication to others be the legacy that remains in our hearts forever. Rest in peace, Detective DeLeonardo, your watch is over, and your service will not be forgotten.

My message to everyone, please keep Detective DeLeonardo, her family, friends and colleagues in your hearts and prayers. Always remember reaching out for help, whether it’s your minister, counselor, therapist, peer team member, family or trusted friend when the load is too heavy, isn’t a weakness. Sometimes a different perspective means all the difference how one looks at a problem.
